The acclaimed show, HATS returns to the 2012 National Arts Festival after sold out runs at 11 National Festivals. Don't miss out of this hi impact physical theatre show that will leaving you crying, gasping and smiling in the same breath.

Friendship is the cornerstone of Boschwacked Productions’ Hats, starring Richard Antrobus and Tristan Jacobs. The entire show is performed without dialogue and makes use of evocative movement, comical mime, music, special effects and impressive stunts.

Annette Bayne of The Citizen described Hats as: “[a] story, so simple, yet so profound, [it] reaches beyond the action on stage into your own friendships”.

"HATS" has been Conceived and Directed by Pieter Bosch Botha (Noises Off!, Little Blue Dress, Danny the Champion of the World, Madiba Magic, Spoof Full of Sugar), who has received outstanding critical acclaim and media attention for his past productions. It is being produced by Pieter's production company, Boschwacked Productions. Other members of the creative team are Avril Cummins as Assistant Director, Richard Antrobus as Assistant Choreographer and all Artworks were created by Johan Botha. We are extremely excited to announce that the immensely talented performers, Richard Antrobus and Tristan Jacobs will be playing "Buddy" and "Pal" for the 2010 run of HATS.

HATS is about "Two mates, two swings, one park. Buddy, a mime artist and Pal, a fine artist, along with the hats that changed their lives, share an intriguing story of a friendship so powerful that it speaks without words..." The entire show is performed without dialogue and makes use of evocative movement, comical mime, sensational music, dazzling special effects and impressive stunts. It's a visual feast for the eyes and this tale shines in it's beautiful simplicity. Prepared to be transported by a truly unique story about friendship, love and loss.

Here's what the critics had to say:

"It's non-stop energy, non-stop vivacity...Technically – well, sophisticated, polished, precise; all those words spring to mind. Every move, every expression, every gesture counts, and so it should, as this is physical (very physical) theatre at its best." - Jennifer de Klerk, Artslink.co.za, 23/03/2010

"There is a magic to this play, with a lot of clowning about, fantastic movement and acrobatics which charm the audience both visually and emotionally. This story, so simple, yet so profound, reaches beyond the action on stage into your own friendships." - Annette Bayne, The Citizen, 18/03/2010

"The actors held my heart in their hands for the duration of this delightful physical theatre piece. The message is both timeless and universal. I was caught up in the rapid pace of the simple story and when it was over I was profoundly touched by the heartfelt tribute of one friend to another." - Moira de Swardt, Artslink.co.za, 23/03/2010

"Before watching this I had a neutral feeling towards physical theatre, after seeing Hats it made me completely fall in love with it! This show made me laugh out loud, sob uncontrollably and left me with the lasting feeling that I had just experienced what physical theatre and indeed theatre in general should be. It sparked a true love for theatre… one that I did not know was lacking until I found this. Hats is a show that everyone must see!" - Edward (audience member NAF 2010)
